Nottingham Forest outcast finally finds new club after nightmare spell

Former Nottingham Forest defender Rodrigo Ely has secured a new club having left the City Ground at the end of the January.

The Brazilian centre-back left the Reds without making his debut, despite joining after leaving Alaves last season and he was excepted to compete for a starting spot in the Forest's XI.

He struggled with injury problems and a lack of match fitness as a result.

Following the arrival of Steve Cooper as manager, it was clear for Ely that his time at the club was coming to a premature end.

Ely delivered a classy farewell upon his departure but has been discussing his time at the Reds in an interview with Mundo Deportivo.

“I arrived on the last day of the transfer window,” Ely told Mundo Deportivo.

“I was injured and I didn’t have time to train. So we agreed that I would go through a pre-adaptation period of a month and a half.

“But the coach who brought me in (Hughton) left. And they brought in another coach (Steve Cooper) with other ideas, more focused on young English players.”

Ely has since signed for Almeria, who currently play in Spain's second division.

Confirming the transfer on Twitter, Ely said: "Excited and eager to defend the colors of a club as ambitious as the @U_D_Almeria.

"We have a very nice challenge ahead of us and we are going for it with everything."
