Former Nottingham Forest star Matty Cash is in talks with a permanent summer move to Atletico Madrid.
El Cochoneros boss Diego Simeone is looking to fill the void left by full-back Kieran Trippier after his £12million move to Newcastle.
According to reports in Spain, the Aston Villa man is among Atletico's top targets for the summer transfer window.
The Madrid outfit is willing to spend a fee in the region of £30-£40million to land the talented right-back.
Although it is expected that Simeone and Co. wait until the summer, a late January swoop could still be on the cards with three days left until the window slams shut.
The news comes after Steven Gerrard signed Arsenal Calum Chambers who can operate at right-back and centre-back.
The 24-year-old penned a three-and-a-half-year deal which will see him at Villa Park until 2025.
Cash on the other hand, represented Forest between 2016 to 2020 before making the £16million move to the West Midlands.
Since his arrival, he has been playing a key part in Villa's defence success and has registered 23 appearances across all competition so far this season.
Simeone did recently sign Daniel Wass from fellow La Liga side Valencia to play in defence but he is primarily a midfielder.
However, this week, BirminghamLive was informed by those close to Cash that he remains settled and deeply committed to the new era under head coach Steven Gerrard.
