Nottingham Forest old boy finally finds new club as free transfer confirmed

Former Nottingham Forest captain Lewis Grabban has joined Al-Ahli on a free transfer, the Saudi Arabian club have confirmed on social media.

The 34-year-old has been without a club since leaving the City Ground in the middle of last month after failing to agree on a contract extension and therefore departing at the end of his current contract this summer. West Bromwich Albion were linked with keeping the former Reds forward in the Championship but Grabban has now opted for a move to the Middle East.

Al-Ahli's first match of the season is actually tonight (Wednesday) against Al-Qaisumah at their King Abdullah Sports City in Jeddah. As a result of his new club's relegation from the Saudi Pro League last season after finishing second bottom of the 16-team league table, one point adrift of safety, Grabban will start life in the second-tier First Division League.

Confirmation of the transfer comes the day after photos showing the striker training with a performance coach in Dubai were shared on Instagram. The move is the London-born former Jamaica international's first away from British football since making his debut for Crystal Palace as a teenager in 2005. Grabban went on to score over 160 goals across all four professional tiers as well as a short stint in the Scottish Premiership in more than 500 appearances for 12 different clubs.
