Nottingham Forest are reportedly “nearing a move” for Newcastle United striker Chris Wood.
Steve Cooper admitted last week that he was “hopeful” of more new signings coming in as Forest look to strengthen their squad and ensure Premier League survival, with the team currently sat in 13th. Both Gustavo Scarpa and Danilo have already arrived at the City Ground this month.
An attacking player is also understood to be on Forest’s wishlist and The Times has reported that the club are “working” on a possible loan deal for Newcastle forward Wood. The Magpies stumped up £25m to sign the 31-year-old from Burnley last January as manager Eddie Howe looked to stave off the threat of relegation and now find themselves third in the league.

The report adds that Cooper wishes to add to his striking options as Emmanuel Dennis has “not impressed” since joining from Watford in the summer. It is suggested that the club are attempting to move on the Nigeria international and that Wood could provide a short-term fix for the Reds.
Despite mainly being used as a substitute this term, the reports concerning Wood’s future appear to have sparked concerns among the Newcastle fanbase. Callum Wilson’s injury record and record signing Alexander Isak’s recent return to fitness has led to hopes that there is a new forward on the way to St. James’ Park, if Forest do seal a loan deal for Wood.
@JakeJackmann: Makes no sense unless we are buying an attacker.
@SamTooon: I’d only let wood go if we replace him.
@Dfozzy1970: He done what he was bought to do (keep us up). No time for sentiment, if he has to move now we can afford better, then cheerio old bean. Same applies to several others taking vital squad room up
@Pardiola__: I’m all for Chris Wood going but surely we sign a replacement. Isak just coming back and Wilson struggling
@DavyBaty81: It’s the right move to let wood go, done his job for us, means we'll get a striker/wide forward on loan
@DazGraham85: I hope the story of Wood going out on loan is true (hopefully with an option) good signing in the moment but think we’re past his ability as long as someone is in before he leaves!
@ScoutNUFC: I'm sure Wood wants to play and we can't begrudge him that, but Howe has said he wants to keep him and we're still limited up front. Surely this is a no-goer?
