Nottingham Forest man 'stunned' as Reds go all out for Man Utd transfer

Nottingham Forest goalkeeper Brice Samba was reportedly shocked by the new contract offered to him after helping the Reds win promotion to the Premier League.

Samba, 28, is entering the final year of his contract at the City Ground but is said to have rejected new terms earlier this month and told the club that he wishes to leave this summer, leading to plenty of speculation over who his replacement might be.

It is a real bombshell for Forest given Samba played such a huge part in their promotion campaign. He saved three penalties against Sheffield United in the play-off semi-final before also keeping a clean sheet in the final against Huddersfield Town.

According to The Sun, Samba was shocked to learn that Forest were offering him a new deal on the same money but are prepared to spend large amounts of cash to sign Manchester United shot-stopper Dean Henderson on loan. However, a Forest source has rejected the report.

The initial report about Samba claimed his decision to reject Forest’s offer of a new deal “and reluctantly seek an exit” is not financially motivated “but about respect for his achievements, importance and popularity at the City Ground”.

The Congo international is a fan favourite on the banks of the River Trent and Forest fans have been calling for the Reds to revisit contract negotiations with the 28-year-old.

Forest have been eyeing up England international Henderson as a possible loan target, but that move is said to now not include an option to buy that could open up the possibility of bringing back James Garner once again.

The Sun claim that Forest are willing to stump up all of Henderson's £100k+ weekly wage.
