Nottingham Forest man ‘mentioned’ by Leeds United in summer transfer window plans

Leeds United could look to make a summer move for Nottingham Forest loanee James Garner, according to reports.

The midfielder is on loan at the City Ground from Premier League giants Manchester United until the end of the season. The 21-year-old has caught the eye with his performances with other Premier League clubs now starting to be linked with an interest.

Garner has scored three goals and provided a further six assists in all competitions so far this season, including two assists in Forest’s run to the FA Cup quarter-final. He has been a key player in Steve Cooper’s squad who sit in ninth place in the Championship table, three points off the play-off places.

According to the Athletic, Garner is a name that has been ‘mentioned’ as a possibility for Leeds United this summer. It is unknown if the Whites will be looking to agree a loan or permanent deal with Manchester United.

It has recently been reported that Garner is targeting a return to Old Trafford next season with the aim of breaking into the first team. Former Forest striker Glenn Murray has predicted that the midfielder will be playing in the Premier League this season.

“I am sure that next year if he is not part of the Manchester United first-team squad he will go on loan to a bigger, better team, possibly a Premier League team,” he said. “It's just about him progressing for Manchester United on loan at Nottingham Forest."

Leeds were linked with an interest in Garner earlier this month with Jesse Marsch’s side along with Southampton said to be keeping a ‘close eye’ on the midfielder.
