Nottingham Forest’s chances of retaining the services of Djed Spence beyond this season look increasingly unlikely after the Middlesbrough loan star has been tipped to step up to the Premier League.
Former Tottenham full-back Alan Hutton, who had a brief loan spell at the City Ground during his playing days, believes the 21-year-old would be an ideal fit for Spurs’ boss Antonio Conte.
Spence has firmly established himself as a favourite among Reds fans along with Brennan Johnson, proving to be extremely effective getting forward on the attack as much as he has with his defensive responsibilities, having switched effortlessly between full-back and wing-back duties.
Tottenham are among a number of Premier League clubs, including Arsenal and Leeds United, said to be interested signing him from parent club Middlesbrough in the summer.
According to Sky Sports, Spence has also attracted interest from Bayern Munich who are said to be monitoring his situation.
Spence signed a new contract with Middlesbrough before joining Forest on loan, meaning his current Riverside deal runs until 2024.
“We know Tottenham are a massive club with an elite manager now,” said former Spurs full-back Hutton, speaking to Football Insider.
“He’ll be looking to stamp his own style on this side within the next transfer window. Spence is a boy who has come through and looks ready for the next level, in my opinion. He’s been incredible for Forest.
“There’s a chance within that Spurs team, with the formation and system they play, for someone to really go ahead and thrive.
“Sessegnon and Doherty have been playing well, and we saw that against Leeds – but Conte will want to strengthen.
“Spence massively fits the bill for Conte and that system, there’s no doubt.”
