Nottingham Forest man could be granted 'special dispensation' from FIFA for January transfer

Winger Alex Mighten is set to return to Nottingham Forest in "the coming days".

The 20-year-old has been on loan at Sheffield Wednesday since the summer, and was due to remain at Hillsborough until the end of the season. But after making just 14 appearances in all competitions for the Owls, it is now being reported that he will be returning to the City Ground soon.

He has scored just once in nine League One appearances, and has struggled in recent weeks after a brief upturn of form in November. The Forest academy graduate and England youth international may need another club with a different playing style in order to flourish and fulfil his potential.

According to the Sheffield Star, Mighten's loan is being cut short and he is due back at the City Ground imminently. Mighten has made competitive appearances for both Forest and Wednesday this season, so according to FIFA rules cannot move to a third Europe-based club. That would leave him in limbo, given he is not currently knocking on Steve Cooper's door for a place in the first team squad.

However, the report from Yorkshire notes that Mighten could be allowed another loan move under "special dispensation measures". He could have several suitors in the EFL, though no clubs have been linked with interest in him as yet.
