Nottingham Forest make January decision as transfer confirmed

Nottingham Forest have terminated defender Loic Bade’s loan deal, by mutual agreement with Rennes.

The 22-year-old signed for the Reds from the French outfit on deadline day in the summer, on a season-long loan with an option - said to be worth £12million - to make the move permanent. However, he struggled to force his way into boss Steve Cooper’s plans and departs without making a single appearance in the Garibaldi.

Last week, Sevilla announced an agreement in principle to sign Bade on loan for the rest of the campaign. As with Forest’s, that deal also includes an option to sign him on a permanent basis.

The Frenchman got minutes in friendlies against Stoke City and Valencia during the World Cup break. But his lack of competitive action for the Reds will now allow him to represent Sevilla; he had already featured for Rennes in August, and players are permitted to play for only two teams in one season.

Cooper previously said of the summer signing: “It’s just the life of a football manager, where you’re trying to integrate everybody and trying to pick the right team. But I’m very happy with his work ethic and very happy with how he’s trying to listen to how we want to play and taking things on board.

“He’s a young player who has come from a different country. It’s the Premier League, in England. It’s interesting talking to some of the older foreign boys about how they talk about the Premier League in England being very different to anything else. There’s going to be a natural phase of adaptation for any of them - especially for a young player."

Bade is the first departure from the City Ground this month, although further exits are expected as Forest look to make space to bring new signings in. They have already added Gustavo Scarpa to their ranks, with the Brazilian available to make his debut against Southampton on Wednesday night.
