Nottingham Forest make brilliant Paul McCartney plea for West Ham clash

Nottingham Forest have encouraged legendary singer and Beatles star Paul McCartney to perform at the City Ground.

The 79-year-old previously said he would do so when Forest won promotion to the Premier League, which has now been achieved. Forest fans have adopted his song Mull of Kintyre as their own club anthem and it is proudly sung before every Reds game.

Radio host, podcaster and Forest fan Matt Dyson recalled a previous interview of his with McCartney. "Just remembered that I once interviewed @PaulMcCartney and he promised to play Mull of Kintyre live at the City Ground if #NFFC ever got promoted," he tweeted. "Come on, Sir Paul, let’s make it happen!"

In that interview, which happened on XFM several years ago, Dyson said to McCartney: "Maybe you can do a live performance, like if Forest gets promoted?" McCartney replied: "Yes, when is that going to happen? Soon? Good luck Nottingham."

Forest have now got on board with calls for McCartney to fulfil his promise, writing on Twitter: "You know you want to, @PaulMcCartney" with a winking emoji and a guitar emoji.

Forest's first home match of the new Premier League season will be against West Ham on August 13.
