Nottingham Forest 'keen' on soon to be out of contract Burton man

Nottingham Forest have been linked with interest in versatile Burton Albion defender Tom Hamer.

The 22-year-old, who started out at Oldham Athletic, is primarily known as a right-back but has also been deployed as a centre-half and defensive midfielder.

Another big attraction is the fact that he has an eye for goal and a reputation for possessing a long throw, ideal for threatening slinging balls into the box and a tactic deployed by many a Championship club with players who have that in their locker.

Transfer specialist Alan Nixon claims Forest have the young player on their radar ahead of the summer transfer window, while Hull City are also reported to be ready go back in for the player they tried to sign in January.

The Sun journalist tweeted: "Forest. Hull. Both keen on Tom Hamer at Burton. Tigers tried in last window. Forest may need one."

Hamer made 84 league appearances and scored six goals for Athletic before switching to Albion in January 2021 for an undisclosed fee.

Since then he’s gone on to make 52 League One starts and score four goals under Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink.

Hamer’s contract is up at the end of the season and he has yet to agree fresh terms with the third-tier outfit, so could provide an ideal bargain for the Reds who could well be in the market for a new right-back come the end of the season, when the excellent Djed Spence is set to return to his parent club Middlesbrough.
