Nottingham Forest 'interested' in Newcastle United man ahead of summer transfer window

Nottingham Forest are one of three clubs reportedly eyeing a potential loan move for Newcastle United youngster Elliot Anderson when the summer transfer window opens.

The 19-year-old is currently on loan with League Two side Bristol Rovers where he has caught the eye with his performances in recent weeks. After joining on a temporary basis in January, the attacking midfielder has scored three goals and provided three assists in 15 appearances for the club.

According to the Sunday Mirror, his performances have prompted interest from three Championship clubs, including Forest. Queens Park Rangers and Preston North End are the other clubs said to be eyeing a potential summer deal.

Forest are likely to want to add to their attacking areas once the summer comes around with attacking midfield one of the areas where the squad is light. Brennan Johnson is the only recognised player in Steve Cooper’s squad who can play the position.

Anderson is highly rated at St James’ Park meaning that a loan deal would be the most realistic option. Speaking about the player’s future this week, Eddie Howe said that a decision will be made in the summer.

I think it's very difficult for young players to make that jump into the team, coming from the 18s to the 23s to the first team,” he said (via ChronicleLive).

"It's probably one of the hardest transitions you have to make at Premier League level. It's very, very difficult. That's why the loan system is so important, so if I can't guarantee him that game time, then definitely a loan spell will be an option again."

The Newcastle boss also expects a lot of Championship interest in the player. “I think there will be,” he added.

“And I was disappointed for him that he didn't get that opportunity at the higher level. That's no disrespect to Bristol Rovers because I think Joey and Kevin Bond have been really good for him and allowed him to flourish and to sow how good he is."
