Nottingham Forest 'interested' in £17m Tottenham transfer as talks begin for deal

Nottingham Forest are reportedly interested in signing Tottenham Hotspur defender Japhet Tanganga.

Steve Cooper is keen to bring a few more additions in to add to his 16 new signings before the transfer window deadline on September 1. Tanganga is the latest player to emerge as a possibility, according to The Athletic.

Last season Tanganga made just 19 outings in all competitions having suffered a knee injury. He is yet to make an appearance for Antonio Conte this season, with competition for a first team spot fierce.

With three years left on his deal, Spurs are said to be holding out a fee of around £16.8 million. Forest are not the only side chasing his signature, though.

Fellow Premier League side Bournemouth and Serie A outfit AC Milan are also keen, while Napoli previously held an interest. Milan are reportedly still in talks over a potential deal, given the defender has reportedly been made available to leave the club this summer transfer window.

Speaking during pre-season, Tanganga said of his future: "It's just speculation and I don't read too much into speculation.

"My focus is I'm just happy to be back, being injury free and helping the team as much as I can and be ready when I'm called upon. It's about being ready. There was a period when Cristian Romero was injured and the manager called upon me to play in that position.

"I'm just grateful to play as many games as possible."
