Nottingham Forest in six-way transfer fight to sign £3m Leeds United target

Nottingham Forest are one of six sides competing for Schalke winger Rabbi Matondo's signature this summer.

The 21-year-old - who is primarily a right-winger, but can also feature on the left or up-front - spent last season on loan from Schalke at Belgian side Cercle Brugge. He scored nine goals and contributed two assists from 26 league appearances in 2021-22.

According to German outlet Bild, Steve Cooper could look to add another Welshman to his squad after Brugge opted not to exercise their option to buy the forward.

Forest face competition to sign the 21-year-old, however, with reports from Germany saying that the Reds are joined by Premier League rivals Brentford and Leeds United as well as French first division clubs RC Lens, Stade Brest and ESTAC Troyes.

Matondo's current contract with Schalke is set to expire next summer and Bild say clubs would have to pay at least €4m (around £3m) to sign the winger who, according to reports, joined from Manchester City's academy in 2019 for around £10m.

The Reds, managed by Welshman Cooper, already have Welsh attacking star Brennan Johnson within their ranks. They have also been linked with moves for fellow Red Dragon internationals Joe Rodon and Nico Williams.
