Nottingham Forest in 'open race' to complete January transfer for winger

Nottingham Forest have reportedly "enquired" about the availability of Union Berlin winger Sheraldo Becker and "want" to sign the player during the January transfer window.

Becker, 27, has enjoyed a strong start to the season for the German side, scoring eight goals and assisting a further five for teammates across all competitions. The Suriname international has been moved to a more central role in the attack since the Reds signed Taiwo Awoniyi from the capital club during the summer.

While playing together over the previous two seasons, the pair combined to assist six goals for each other. Since arriving for what was at the time a club-record fee at the start of the summer, Awoniyi has scored three goals and is Forest's top scorer so far this season despite starting less than half of the club's Premier League matches.

Sky Sport reporter Florian Plettenberg claims that the club have "enquired" about the player and "want" to complete a transfer during the approaching winter window. The Germany-based journalist also adds that Becker has always had ambitions of playing in the Premier League and that it is currently an "open race" for the winger's signature and at an "early stage".

The player's want to play in England may well have stemmed from his cousins. Former Netherlands international Luciano Narsingh, who spent 18 months with Swansea City when they were a top-flight team, is one of three of Becker's relatives that has played professionally. Another cousin Javairô Dilrosun also spent four years as a part of Manchester City 's academy but now is back in Holland playing for Feyenoord.
