Nottingham Forest have held “talks” with Spain international Alejandro Grimaldo, claims The Athletic.
The 27-year-old left-back will be a free agent at the end of the season after deciding not to renew his contract with Benfica, and the player is reported to be attracting interest from the Premier League.
Benfica reached the last eight of the Champions League thanks to a 7-1 aggregate win over Club Bruges, with the Reds’ target playing 180 minutes over the two legs for the Portuguese side.

Benfica’s Athletic reporter Mario Cortegana says Ligue 1 side Nice have made an appealing financial offer but a move to the Premier League is “attractive” and there have been talks with Forest and Fulham.
Meanwhile, he says Spanish Real Sociedad and Valencia have “sounded out” a move for the player. Grimaldo has also been linked with Borussia Dortmund in Germany and Bayer Leverkusen manager Xabi Alonso has shown interest too, it is claimed.
Grimaldo has been included in Spain manager Luis de la Fuente’s provisional squad for this month’s Euro 2024 qualifiers against Norway and Scotland.
