Nottingham Forest handed injury boost ahead of Tottenham Hotspur clash

Nottingham Forest midfielder Cheikhou Kouyate is edging closer to making a return from injury.

The 33-year-old suffered a torn hamstring while representing his country at last year’s World Cup. He was stretchered off in Senegal’s opening group game following a collision with the Netherlands' Frenkie de Jong.

Kouyate had been in good form for the Reds prior to that. And with head coach Steve Cooper having had to contend with a lengthy absentee list in recent weeks, he has been boosted by the summer signing’s return to training.

“I don't think there are any fresh injuries. Some boys are getting close,” Cooper said ahead of this Saturday’s trip to face Tottenham Hotspur (3pm kick-off).

“Chiekhou has done a little bit of training this week, so he is close. We didn't risk him today when the snow came down, because it would have been silly to do that.

“The boys are getting closer, but nothing that is really going to affect this weekend. But as the days and weeks go by it becomes a bit more positive. The quicker we can get some guys back, the better.

“We’ve had to train in the snow. It was something which became unavoidable because it came down so quick. An hour before we actually trained it was fine, and then by the time training came around it was snowy. But we trained.”

Forest are still without Scott McKenna, Moussa Niakhate, Willy Boly, Dean Henderson, Taiwo Awoniyi, Omar Richards and Giulian Biancone. Midfielder Ryan Yates made his comeback from illness in Sunday’s 2-2 draw with Everton.
