Nottingham Forest great tipped for management return with Reds' promotion rivals

Nottingham Forest great Roy Keane is tipped to be in the mix for a return to management, according to the bookmakers.

The former Reds midfielder and assistant boss is included in the odds for two current managerial vacancies.

Forest's promotion rivals West Bromwich Albion have parted ways with Valerien Ismael, with the team sitting fifth in the Championship table - just two points above Steve Cooper’s side.

Sky Bet have Keane down at 16/1 to take over at The Hawthorns, with former Reds loanee John Terry at 12/1.

Ex-Newcastle United chief Steve Bruce is priced at 10/11, while Tony Mowbray is down at 6/1 to make the switch from the Blackburn Rovers hot-seat.

The bookies also have both Keane (5/1) and Terry (12/1) in the running to take charge at Sunderland. Ex-Hull City boss Grant McCann is favourite for that one, at 2/1.

Lee Johnson was axed from his post at the Stadium of Light at the weekend. Should Keane be considered as his replacement, it would be a return to the club where he launched his managerial career, in 2008.

The Irishman had a spell as assistant boss to Martin O’Neill at the City Ground in 2019, but has worked as a TV pundit since his departure.

Last year, it was reported he held talks with Scottish giants Celtic about succeeding Neil Lennon.

O’Neill said of Keane at the time those links emerged: "Roy has his own methods, it is there when he does his punditry work you can see that is the case.

"And I think strong characters at a football club would like that sort of management.”
