Nottingham Forest great sends strong message to West Ham fans over Jesse Lingard 'bitterness'

Stan Collymore says he doesn't understand the "noise, spite and bitterness" over Jesse Lingard's decision to sign for Nottingham Forest over West Ham.

The ex-Manchester United star signed a one-year deal with the Reds this summer, following the expiration of his deal at Old Trafford. The midfielder became the 11th addition made by Steve Cooper this transfer window.

However, his move to the Trentside may have come as a surprise to many, following his impressive loan stint with the Hammers in the 2020/21 season - scoring nine goals and assisting six in 16 outings. Collymore believes that the 29-year-old's decision to sign for his former club Forest instead has caused unnecessary 'noise'.

"West Ham fans should stop crying that Jesse Lingard snubbed them and went to Nottingham Forest," Collymore wrote in his Mirror column. "Were my eyebrows raised by the move? Yes. Was it partly because of the money? Yes.

"But Forest are a massive club, a great club. They have two stars above that tree on the shirt that will make a difference in getting players over the line. So I don't understand the noise, spite and bitterness from pundits and people with a West Ham allegiance about Lingard's decision."
