Everton have entered the race to sign Tottenham and Wales defender Joe Rodon.
talkSPORT report the centre-back is now on Toffees boss Frank Lampard's wishlist this summer. The news will come as a concern for Nottingham Forest head coach Steve Cooper, who has been tracking his former player intensively since the City Ground club achieved Premier League promotion back in May.
Rodon, 22, appears to be inching towards the exit door in north London with game-time limited under Italian boss Antonio Conte last term. The Welshman is coveted by Cooper and former boss Jose Mourinho, now at Roma, and the Portuguese had some warm words for the Swansea-born product on his final day at Spurs. But Everton and Lampard's interest may well jolt Cooper and Mourinho into action, with the Toffees and Spurs already in transfer talks regarding Brazil star Richarlison and Anthony Gordon, with big wigs from both clubs spotted having dinner together in London on Monday night.
talkSPORT's Alex Crook said on the Jim White Show: "In terms of Everton, really interesting link-up between Everton and Tottenham. Daniel Levy and Bill Kenwright were actually spotted out having dinner at a London restaurant on Monday night and I'm sure the name of Richarlsion and Anthony Gordon came into the conversation. We know for his part Frank Lampard is quite keen on at least one Tottenham player in Harry Winks, maybe two, as I'm told Joe Rodon is also on Lampard's shortlist this summer, so there could be some kind of swap deal."
Whatever happens to Rodon this summer, guaranteed game-time will be his priority ahead of the World Cup this winter in Qatar. He would likely find minutes easier to come by at the City Ground or Goodison Park and working with old faces may well appeal.
Cooper is a big fan of Rodon, having coached him during his time as Swansea City manager. He said of him back in 2019: “I think Joe is a big player for us. He has had a very good start to the season, and the exciting thing with Joe is he is only going to get better. I really believe in his potential. He is a right-footed centre-back playing on the left, which just shows his quality of how he can play with the ball.
“He is taking great responsibility, with and without the ball, and he is only going to grow in this environment. I think he is a really good player and I am enjoying working with him. He loves Swansea, he loves playing for the football club. He is proud to represent the club – those are his words not mine – and he is giving his all day in and day out.
“It’s a real honour to work with him and the guys every day as they only want to improve and support their team-mates. Joe is a fantastic example of that. If he keeps going as he only good things will happen for him with club and country.”
Cooper is also keen on snapping up Rodon's international team-mate Neco Williams from Liverpool.
