Nottingham Forest given Brighton instruction as Liverpool boss makes Anfield admission

Nottingham Forest headlines for Monday, April 24.

Brighton instruction

Nottingham Forest have been told to use the frustration from their defeat at Liverpool as motivation for a big week ahead.

The Reds only had themselves to blame for coming away from Anfield empty-handed, with some woeful defending at set-pieces proving costly as they lost 3-2 at Anfield. But the fact they came so close to getting a positive result is a source of encouragement for head coach Steve Cooper.

His team have now gone 11 games without a win and dropped to 19th in the Premier League table. They showed no shortage of fight in the north west, however - something they will need to replicate in their remaining six games, starting at home to Brighton and Hove Albion on Wednesday.

'Proper mess'

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has admitted Nottingham Forest left his top-six hopefuls in a 'proper mess' at Anfield before edging a 3-2 victory on Saturday.

A brace by Diogo Jota and a goal from Mohamed Salah secured all three points for Klopp's men, despite Forest twice drawing level through Neco Williams and Morgan Gibbs-White.

The result extends the Reds' awful away record of just one win on the road all season - but a key tactic repeatedly had the hosts on the back foot, as Klopp explained.

Rally cry

Nottingham Forest will address the individual errors which are proving so costly in their survival fight behind closed doors.

But head coach Steve Cooper has stressed the importance of remaining united to aid the Reds' bid to get out of trouble. And he was pleased his players did that in their 3-2 defeat to Liverpool - with supporters also playing a key part.

Forest did not look like a side which has suffered from travel sickness all season as they twice came from behind to equalise at Anfield. However, they were undone by some careless defending at set-pieces as an 11th game without a win saw them drop to 19th in the table.

Turning point

The scoreline shows another defeat, but those stats don’t tell you everything. There is more to it than that. Much more.

This could be a turning point for Nottingham Forest. It could be the momentum-changer they’ve been searching for, even if it came with them dropping down a place in the table.

Far from being stalked by fear as the final whistle brought an 11th match without a win and a fourth straight loss, the Reds have renewed hope. The mood was one of positivity, unity and warrior-like defiance as Steve Cooper and his players applauded the travelling supporters.
