Nottingham Forest are close to announcing their first signing of the summer in Taiwo Awoniyi.
The Nigerian striker travelled to England on June 23 (Thursday) to complete his medical ahead of his move from Union Berlin to the City Ground. Awoniyi scored 25 times for the Bundesliga outfit after signing from Liverpool in 2021 and will now lead the line for Forest next season.
He has had various spells at different clubs across his career, with loan stints at Mouscron, Gent, Mainz 05 and Berlin before leaving the Merseyside club last summer on a permanent basis without a single appearance.

His move to the Midlands will come at a cost as the Reds are set to break their club-record fee of £17 million for his services, with Liverpool set to receive 10% of the transfer.
Reliable transfer expert Fabrizio Romano tweeted the news early today (Friday) on his Twitter. He said: "Nottingham Forest have signed all paperworks for Taiwo Awoniyi deal with Union Berlin,
"It's done and sealed, agreement completed," he added. "£17m release clause triggered and Liverpool will receive 10% of the transfer."
The 24-year-old becomes Steve Cooper's first signing of the summer transfer window as they prepare for their first season back in the Premier League for the first time in 23 years in August.
