Nottingham Forest fans praise 'amazing' Steve Cooper after remembering Reds' boss' early prediction

Nottingham Forest fans have enjoyed reading back Steve Cooper's first statement of intent after taking the reins at the City Ground.

Cooper was appointed as the successor to Chris Hughton back in September 2021 but has been chief of an incredible turnaround at Forest.

When he was appointed, Forest were bottom of the Championship and had suffered their worst start to a league campaign for more than a century. Now, the lowest the Reds can finish this season is fourth with the play-offs confirmed after they pushed Bournemouth in the automatic promotion race up until the penultimate game of the season.

Forest writer Callum Castel-Nuovo found what Cooper said in an open letter to supporters shortly after his appointment, and Reds fans are loving how the Forest boss' tenure has panned out so far.

Speaking back in September, Cooper said: "This is a squad with lots of potential. Results have not been as you would have wished in recent weeks and we understand that we have to win the faith of our supporters.

"Nevertheless, I can see from my first session that this is a strong squad of players who want to do well. I hope that very soon we will be delivering performances and results of which you can be proud.

"My approach to management throughout my time coaching in the junior and senior game has been to play attacking, creative football. That will not change.

"From speaking to those who love Forest and hold dear its traditions and history, I recognise that this is a club that demands a style and a verve in keeping with its greatest days under its greatest manager. I hardly need to tell you that this club have been out of English football’s top-flight for far too long."

This is what some Forest fans have been saying about Cooper's past statement...

@callumcasteln: Looking back at this part of Steve Cooper’s first message to Forest fans when he arrived. Didn’t lie one bit did he. What a man.

@StuartabbStuart: That message will be replayed when we win the CL in 3 years time (okay I stretch it to 5 years). Mark my words, young man - RIP BC.

@Amanda28_84: He has done amazing with a squad that most aren’t his… imagine what next season will be like after a full summer transfer window & pre season training

@owski81: I was so impressed by his interview with Colin Fray I bought a shirt with his name on the back!

@foozinho: We forget that he’s not even had a preseason with the players

@777Leds: Nottingham will Come alive as soon as the Reds hit the Prem. The shadows will lift and the sun will shine for all of us Nottinghamians when our beloved trees are back where they belong.

@MarkScothern: Whatever the outcome of this season, I just hope #nffc don't let the positively and momentum created fade away as has happened in many other false dawns. This time, it feels different.

@TrixieKing: Brilliant from our new legend
