Nottingham Forest fans pile in on latest Derby County takeover twist

Nottingham Forest fans have been joking about the long-term future of Derby County after the Rams received an update on the progress of their takeover.

Derby have been in administration since September, but progress has been made with American businessman Chris Kirchner currently having exclusivity to complete a takeover after being named as the preferred bidder by administrators Quantuma.

According to John Percy of the Telegraph, conversations are still needed between Kirchner and the English Football League (EFL) about a deal to save the stricken Rams.

It is being claimed that a deal to buy Pride Park from its owner Mel Morris, who put the Rams into administration, is still a "concern". Kirchner's exclusivity period with Quantuma ends on Saturday, the day of Derby's final Championship clash of the season with Wayne Rooney's relegated men set to round off their campaign against Cardiff City.

The deal to buy the Rams has been complicated by Morris separating the stadium from the club in 2018, with Derby City Council potentially set to buy the ground off the club's former owner. Kirchner has flown over to Derby to watch the Rams' game against Cardiff on Saturday and attempt to tie up his move for the club.

This is what some Forest fans have been saying on social media...

@Adam_Webster96: We might not go up but at least we know we have a club to go back to come August.

@crag06: Just shut them down now

@JakeBoxeo: Haha

@GarethJD: Watch it now, it’ll fall through

@HalpinJamie: optimism lasted long

@Drackus_AD: Back to earth with a bump for #dcfc after the best night of their season on Tuesday.

@CozticRed: It's lucky #dcfcfans also support Bournemouth. At least they'll have one club to support next season

@gavinthered78: They’re not interested John, they’ve been Bournemouth fans this week, and next week it will be whoever #nffc are playing in the play offs, that’s their focus .

@_NFFCJosh: they are only a small league one club anyway
