Nottingham Forest fans pile in on huge Derby County takeover update

Nottingham Forest supporters have been reacting to Derby County's misfortunes after it was confirmed that Chris Kirchner has withdrawn his bid to buy the club.

The dreaded news was confirmed by Quantuma, the Rams' administrators, with the American businessman now out of the race to take over at Pride Park after initially being named as their preferred bidder in April.

Kirchner's withdrawal means the door is now open for someone else to come in and rescue the club, which has been in administration since September when Mel Morris decided he could no longer fund the club.

Former Derby chairman Andy Appleby and ex-Newcastle United owner Mike Ashley have both been mentioned as possible buyers, but it remains unclear who will reach the finish line in buying the club.

Following the confirmation of Kirchner's withdrawal, placing the Rams back to square one, Forest fans have been having their say.

Forest earned promotion to the Premier League last month and now have further reason to hold the bragging rights in the rivalry. Speaking on social media, here's what some of them have had to say...

@RavenSeven: You know it’s bad when your rivalry switches from banter to pity

@MrToplis89: As a Forest fan, I'd be gutted to see Derby go under, Forest need Derby for the rivalry and banter! We'd all love to have a joke about Derby being in League One but would be gutted to no longer have Forest Derby rivalry!

@RedsReporter: Glad I'm not a Derby fan. Gotta feel for the fans. Horrible.

@Craig88477049: Confirming what everyone knew except Derby fans.

@kirielewood: Hardly surprising is it? I mean, we all hate Derby but going out of business isn't what we want. Starting the season in the National League maybe

@keefpsycho: Now the fun and games will begin

@RussRyyates: What gives Derby the right to have more time than Bury had disgraceful should be all over by now, harsh maybe but fair and true
