Brennan Johnson’s brilliant displays for Nottingham Forest have led to increased speculation over his future.
Johnson has been a target of Brentford for some time now while Newcastle United and Leeds United have also been linked with the talented forward.
Manager Steve Cooper addressed that interest following Tuesday’s win over Barnsley, which saw Johnson add to his tally of goals for the season.
Asked whether he was hopeful of hanging on to the Wales international this month, Cooper said: "I’m more than hopeful. I’m sure he’ll be here."
Cooper’s comments are a boost to Forest fans, who have seen their side move into promotion contention thanks in part to Johnson's swashbuckling displays.
Here’s a taste of what supporters have been saying on social media…
Greg Hill: The only deal I’d make is £20 million, but we keep him until the end of the season. If we get promoted we have the option to match the terms and keep him. Obviously if we don’t get promoted he goes with our blessing…..
Gary Tucker: Just reject and give him a new contract.
Sean O'Farrell: If Forest have any ambition, they'll wait till the summer before considering any bids.
Javier Alejandro: He will not go. He knows what’s best for him.
Bill Turner: We would be mental to sell him at this stage of the season.
Andy Arnott: This guy wants to play in Premier league. More chance with Forest than Newcastle TBH.
Paul Whitehill: Need to break the cycle of selling our best players mid season if we have any ambition.
John Harper: It's not "rocket science! "If Newcastle bid say £20 million and the option is keeping him for the rest of the season meaning £180 million in getting us to the prem, which option would you take?
Joe Frost: Brentford or Newcastle would be a terrible move for him, development-wise. Both teams that could be in the same or lower division than us next year.
His value is rising so I’d hang onto him until the Summer. If we don’t get promoted and he’s not signed a new contract then cash in then. The interest will still be there, the money will be as good if not better and we’ll have the Summer to replace him and rebuild the team with the cash.
