Nottingham Forest fans blame 'Wembley variant' after falling ill with suspected Covid-19

Nottingham Forest fans have taken to Twitter after falling ill following their team's victory at Wembley last week. The supporters made the trip down to London on Sunday, May 29, to see their side triumph 1-0 over Huddersfield and book their place in the Premier League for the first time in 23 years.

But the celebrations may have come at a cost. Now, a number of fans have been commenting on Twitter about coughs, aches and pains that they have been suffering from ever since they returned home. Some suspect they may have contracted Covid-19 after being in close proximity with strangers during the match.

One supporter kicked things off when he posted saying that is sounded like 'everyone' had fallen ill. He said: "Sounds like everyone’s had it. Proper cold and a horrific cough, since the return from Wembley last week. Anyone else?"

This led to many fans tweeting about their experience too. @Claire_NFFC_x wrote: "Yeah, me!… thinking I’ve got a touch of the Forest/Wembley variant too… sore throat for the last few days… and now a streaming nose!… feel rubbish… it’s all the hugging we did with complete strangers!… the dreaded lurgy has spread like a bush fire through all of us!"

@ziggerzagger67 said: "Yep, exactly that. Cough, aches, horrible throat. COVID tested three times for work/hospital visiting but all clear. Very unpleasant though." Another fan joked: "People are calling it Wembley covid... for the result I would suffer it every week lol x"
