Nottingham Forest facing key transfer decisions as summer business steps up

Nottingham Forest have been busy in the transfer market in recent days as they prepare for their Premier League return - but they still have some big decisions to make.

Three signings have been made so far, in Taiwo Awoniyi, Dean Henderson and Giulian Biancone. Moussa Niakhate is set to become the fourth arrival of the summer, with more additions to come beyond that.

Meanwhile, a number of players have headed in the opposite direction. Goalkeeper Brice Samba joined French club Lens on Tuesday, youngster Jayden Richardson has gone to Aberdeen, and Mohamed Drager and Ethan Horvath have both headed out on loan.

More exits are expected before the window closes on September 1 as boss Steve Cooper shapes his squad. And there are a number of players whose futures remain in doubt.

Samba had 12 months left to run on his contract at the City Ground before he departed. There are others in a similar position, who Forest could look to cash in on, rather than see them leave for nothing next summer.

Striker Lyle Taylor is among those whose deals expire in 2023. He spent the second half of last season on loan at Birmingham City, and will likely find himself down the pecking order again.

Joe Lolley, Cafu and Xande Silva are also included in the list of those with a year remaining on their deals, while Nuno Da Costa’s is believed to expire then, too. The latter was on loan at Caen last term.

Nicholas Ioannou spent last season on loan at Como 1907. His contract expires in 2024, but may well find himself among those moving on this summer.
