Nottingham Forest face transfer competition as Everton 'working on' striker deal

Everton are reportedly "working on" a deal to sign former Nottingham Forest forward Ben Brereton Díaz amid apparent interest in a Reds reunion.

The Chile international is said to be "keen to explore opportunities elsewhere" despite there being a contract extension on the table from his current club Blackburn Rovers. In the aftermath of those reports, the Reds are said to be one of several Premier League clubs "checking on" the player.

Aston Villa, Bournemouth and West Ham United are named as clubs credited with an interest in Brereton Díaz, with overseas interest from Nice, who have reportedly seen a £10million bid rejected by Rovers, and Sevilla also linked. It is another English club, though, that appear to be stepping up its interest.

As transfer journalists Alan Nixon and Fabrizio Romano have both reported in recent days, it is claimed Everton are "working on" a deal to bring the player to Goodison Park. Romano adds that manager Frank Lampard still "has to decide" whether he wants Brereton Díaz or not.

Around £15million is apparently Blackburn's asking price for the striker who has scored twice and assisted another goal in six appearances so far this season. Nixon adds that Leeds United also hold an interest, but may need to sanction a sale first.

Would a return for Brereton Díaz be right? Let us know in the comments...
