Nottingham Forest face Everton competition for Rangers striker amid transfer links

Nottingham Forest have been linked with a move for striker Alfredo Morelos but face competition from Everton, it is claimed.

The Colombian forward will leave Rangers this summer after spending six years at Ibrox following his arrival from Finnish outfit Helsinki in 2017. His 29 goals in Europe made him the club's all-time top European goalscorer.

But his time in Scotland is coming to an end with his current deal at the Scottish giants expiring at the end of June. The 26-year-old will be able to sign for clubs as a free agent on July 1.

According to claims by Colombian journalist Pipe Sierra, via SportWitness Rangers were unable to find an agreement with Morelos. He also claims that Forest are interested alongside Everton, Spanish sides, Sevilla and Cadiz as well as Turkish club Fenerbahce and an unnamed Italian club.

It is not clear which club is leading the race to sign him but the striker would add another option up-front for Reds boss Steve Cooper. He would face some stiff competition to start though with Taiwo Awoniyi the club's preferred number nine with star player Brennan Johnson often partnering him up-front.

But his experience, all be it in a less high profile league, would certainly give Forest an added weapon as they seek to secure their Premier League status for another campaign and climb further up the table.

Morelos would not be the first connection from Ibrox to make the move to the City Ground. Ross Wilson left Rangers in April to become the Reds' chief football officer.
