Nottingham Forest eye defender transfer as 'trial' offer made

Nottingham Forest are reportedly interested on taking Aberdeen defender Luke Turner in the summer window.

The 19-year-old is out of contract with the Scottish side this summer and is not expected to extend his stay with the club beyond his current deal. According to the Daily Record, the teenager is now on "Forest’s radar", with the centre-back being "offered a trial" with Steve Cooper’s men.

Turner is yet to make a first-team appearance for Aberdeen but has apparently impressed in a season-long loan spell with Northern Ireland side Cliftonville. The Northern Irishman has earned rave reviews for his performances this season. He has played 43 times in all competitions and was named as Northern Ireland’s Young Player of the Year in an awards ceremony this week.

Should Turner be successful in his trial with Forest, the defender is likely to start with the club’s under-23 squad before attempting to break into the first team. He will look to follow in the footsteps of academy graduate Joe Worrall.

Speaking back in February, Cliftonville manager Paddy McLaughlin was full of praise for the performances of the youngster during his loan spell. “Since the day Luke came in the door, he has been a revelation,” he said, via BelfastLive.

“He has put in big performances and he has been really consistent. It’s difficult sometimes for young players to be consistently good every week, but he has been a really consistent performer for us at 19 years of age.”
