Nottingham Forest defender slammed for moment of 'madness' in defeat to Fulham

Serge Aurier suffered an inexplicable lapse in concentration as Fulham scored the goal which sealed their win against Nottingham Forest, according to David Prutton.

Forest trailed by a single goal with two minutes to go at Craven Cottage but conceded again when Manor Solomon got the home side's second goal to seal all three points. Joe Worrall was arguably pulled out of position to some degree, but right-back Aurier charged through the D and saw the ball played to Solomon, who was now in acres of space to finish past Keylor Navas.

Former Reds midfielder Prutton admitted he could now explain Aurier's dash away from his position on the latest Garibaldi Red podcast.

"I've got no argument for what he did. I've got no idea what the case was. It's madness really," he said.

"If you watch the game between Bournemouth and Newcastle at the weekend, the defender Senesi has a tap in because the striker just lets him run into the box. As a coach you must have your head in your hands because a player has a job to do.

"With Serge Aurier, he has been so consistent at Forest and nothing like we saw at Spurs, but it was clearly a momentary lapse in concentration. I can't make it sound any smarter than that. He just didn't do his job."

Prutton had more sympathy with Forest's defence when it came to Willian's goal in the first half as the former Chelsea man capitalised on Renan Lodi's poor header and then beat the left-back before firing the ball into the top corner.

"Somewhere in between," he said when asked if the goal was a case of brilliant attacking or poor defending. "One lapse of concentration is punished in the Premier League.

"Willian is a fantastic player still. I'm not dialling down what Forest should be doing, but he's a proper Premier League player."
