Nottingham Forest dealt striker transfer blow as 'short shrift' claim made

Nottingham Forest loanee Keinan Davis is “not for sale” this summer, it has been claimed.

Plenty of Reds fans would love to see the striker back at the City Ground next season, especially if the club secures promotion to the Premier League. And the man himself has previously said he would be open to staying, having enjoyed his time on loan from Aston Villa.

However, the Mirror report Villa boss Steven Gerrard is keen to hang on to the front man. They claim Davis is “not on the for sale list” as the top-flight outfit consider their summer transfer business.

The 24-year-old has been hugely impressive since making the switch Trentside on the opening day of the January window. He has notched up 21 appearances in the Garibaldi and bagged five goals, but those stats do not tell the whole story of the impact he has made.

It was a big boost for Forest to have him back in time for the play-offs, following a hamstring injury. And Davis will be keen to play his part at Wembley next week, when Steve Cooper’s men do battle with Huddersfield Town in the promotion decider.

But the Mirror says Cooper is “likely to get short shrift” in any attempt to sign Davis. Should the Reds get promoted and make a bid to bring him in permanently, it is said they “seem certain to hit a brick-wall”.

The report adds that Gerrard is pleased with the forward’s progress and sees his loan spell as “a valuable part of his development”. Asked if he would like to stay beyond the summer, Davis said earlier this year: “Yeah, of course. This is the best I’ve played and the most I’ve enjoyed my football in my whole entire life, so it’s just great to be here.

“We have a bit of banter about that, about loving it here. But as you can tell by the way we’re playing, you can tell us loan signings all love it here.”
