Nottingham Forest confirm transfer exit as Steve Cooper shapes Reds squad

Nottingham Forest defender Jonathan Panzo has completed a loan move to Coventry City.

The January signing will spend the coming season with the Championship outfit as he looks to get minutes under his belt. His departure is the latest bit of business in a busy transfer window at the City Ground, as Reds head coach Steve Cooper shapes his squad for the upcoming Premier League campaign.

Although he has impressed for the Under-23s, Panzo has featured once for the Forest first-team since joining from Dijon in a £1.5m deal on deadline day. That run-out came on the final day of the regular season, when he started the 1-1 draw at Hull City.

Breaking into a side which was doing well proved tough, and the 21-year-old’s challenge would only have got even harder following the Reds’ promotion. Cooper has strengthened his defence, bringing in centre-back Moussa Niakhate, as well as the versatile Giulian Biancone.

Panzo played the second half of Friday’s friendly against the Sky Blues, at the Pinatar Arena in Alicante. Forest had spent the week in Spain on an intense training camp, and the former Chelsea youngster got valuable minutes in the bank despite a 3-1 defeat.

After Panzo made his debut for the club against the Tigers, Cooper said: “I thought he did well. Bringing him off was just tactical, because we wanted to get wingers and a bit more higher width on the pitch, but he did well.

“It was good for him to get his first start. He showed some good bits and grew into the game.

“He should be satisfied with how he did. We are.”

The Reds have made six signings so far this window. Meanwhile, Mohamed Drager, Ethan Horvath, Will Swan and Tyrese Fornah have made loan moves, and Brice Samba and Jayden Richardson have departed on permanent deals.
