Nottingham Forest complete first summer signing as transfer statement issued

Nottingham Forest will complete the permanent signing of Chris Wood from Newcastle United this summer.

The striker is set to become the club's first summer acquisition after he joined the Reds on loan back in January. Forest had an obligation to buy the striker - for a reported fee of £15million - after signing him to aid their bid to survive in the Premier League.

Steve Cooper's side managed to avoid relegation back to the Championship with a string of results towards the back-end of the campaign to ensure their safety. Wood scored one goal for the club, in a 1-1 draw with Man City at the City Ground, before missing the majority of the second half of the season with a hamstring injury.

NottinghamshireLive's Forest writer Sarah Clapson reported: "Forest’s obligation to buy Chris Wood from Newcastle United came into effect when the striker made his third appearance for Steve Cooper’s side. His loan will therefore officially become a permanent move this summer."

And the club confirmed the news when announcing their retained list, stating: "Chris Wood's loan deal from Newcastle United will become permanent from the summer transfer window open date."

The transfer market will reopen on Wednesday, June 14, though most international deals and free transfers will not go through until July 12.

Forest are expected to make several additions to Coopers' squad this summer, while plenty of departures are due too.
