Nottingham Forest closing in on Jonjo Shelvey transfer as Reds in 'advanced talks' for defender

Here’s the latest Nottingham Forest news on Monday, January 30, 2023.

Forest ‘closing in’ on Jonjo Shelvey

Nottingham Forest are "on the verge" of sealing the shock signing of Newcastle United midfielder Jonjo Shelvey, according to reports.

Steve Cooper is keen to add to his squad in the final couple of days of the transfer window as he looks to lead the Reds further away from the Premier League relegation zone. Forest currently sit in 13th place in the league, four points clear of the bottom three.

It now seems that the Reds will turn to Shelvey to help them in the second half of the season. The Telegraph claim that the club are "on the verge" of completing the signing before Tuesday night’s transfer deadline, with the player "keen" on the switch to the City Ground .

Forest in ‘advanced talks’ for defender

Nottingham Forest are in advanced talks with Atletico Madrid to sign centre-back Felipe, according to reports.

At 33, Felipe would bring bags of experience to Forest's backline, but he has barely played this season. The defender has only featured in four Atletico matches, three of which ended in defeat.

Transfer insider Fabirzio Romano claims that Forest are now close to recruiting the centre-back. He tweeted: "Nottingham Forest are now in advanced talks to sign Felipe as new centre back, discussions ongoing with Atlético Madrid.”

Forest make move for £25m player

Nottingham Forest have made a "bold bid" for Bayer Leverkusen defender Jonathan Tah.

A new centre-back is top of head coach Steve Cooper's wishlist before the January transfer window closes at 11pm on Tuesday, according to reports. The likes of Montpellier's Maxime Esteve and Atletico Madrid's Felipe have been linked, but Tah could be the Reds' man.

The 26-year-old is an ever-present for Bundesliga side Bayer Leverkusen, playing 281 games since joining from Hamburg in 2015. He also has 16 caps for the German national team and was named in the 2019-20 Europa League squad of the season.

Transfer deal agreed

Nottingham Forest have reached an agreement with Belgian side Anderlecht over a transfer for Harry Toffolo, according to reports.

The summer signing has been linked with a move away from the City Ground in recent days, just six months after signing from Championship side Huddersfield Town. The left-back has struggled for regular game time since making the move to the club in the summer.

The 27-year-old has featured 10 times in the Premier League so far this season, but was an unused substitute for the 2-0 win over Leicester City. He was then left out of the squad completely for last weekend’s 1-1 draw with Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium.
