Nottingham Forest close on £10m Omar Richards transfer from Bayern Munich

Nottingham Forest are reportedly closing in on a £10million transfer to sign left-back Omar Richards from Bayern Munich.

Richards, who spent eight years on the books of Reading, joined Bayern on a free transfer last year and reports suggest that the one-time England international is set to have a medical ahead of a move to the Tricky Trees.

During his debut season in Germany's top flight, Richards made 17 appearances in all competitions during a campaign where Bayern won the Bundesliga for the tenth year in a row. Of his 17 games for the German champions, 12 of them were in league matches.

The Athletic report that following a debut campaign at the Allianz Arena that saw Richards make a handful of appearances for Julian Naglesmann's side, the defender is set to link up with Steve Cooper in an €8.5m (£7.2m) switch, with add-ons also part of the deal.

The 24-year-old is set to sign a four-year contract at the City Ground, meaning he will be contracted in the East Midlands until 2026.

News of a move for Richards comes just a day after the same outlet claimed that Forest had a bid of £17m accepted for Liverpool right-back Neco Williams, a deal which Steve Cooper's side had hoped to wrap up by the weekend.

Forest have already completed four senior signings this summer ahead of their return to the Premier League after a 23-year absence.

As well as the loan acquisition of goalkeeper Dean Henderson from Manchester United, Forest have also snapped up former Liverpool striker Taiwo Awoniyi from Union Berlin, as well as French defensive duo Giulian Biancone and Moussa Niakhate from Troyes and Mainz respectively.

Henderson's arrival comes following the news that previous first-choice stopper Brice Samba wanted to leave Forest after three years at the club, joining French side Lens on a permanent deal earlier this week.

Prior to joining Bayern, Forest's expected new left-back Richards made 104 appearances for the Royals after breaking through the club's academy, scoring three times and helping to keep 32 clean sheets for the side now managed by Paul Ince.

Richards still has three years left on his Bayern contract after signing a four-year deal following his exit from the Select Car Leasing Stadium last year.

Forest start their Premier League season away at Newcastle on Saturday, August 6 before their first home game back in the top-flight against West Ham eight days later.
