There is good news for Nottingham Forest fans fearing the worst following their difficult start to the campaign: six of the last 10 Premier League teams to sit 19th after seven games have survived.
And in further encouraging news for head coach Steve Cooper, four of the six stayed up without resorting to changing their managers. Newcastle United dispensed with Steve Bruce on their way to an 11th-placed finish last term having been on just three points seven games into the season.
However, they stuck with Bruce in 2019-20 when they were again 19th and rallied to finish 13th. Burnley, meanwhile, kept faith with Sean Dyche in 2020-21 despite taking just two points from their opening seven fixtures. They eventually finished 17th.

Eddie Howe guided Bournemouth to safety in 2017-18 after taking just four points from a possible 21 to kick off the season, while Stoke under Mark Hughes rallied in 2016-17 to finish 13th after only picking up three points from their first seven games.
Crystal Palace did change their manager in 2013-14, though, with Tony Pulis taking over from Ian Holloway and lifting the Eagles to 11th. That season was particularly notable as all three teams in the drop zone after seven games survived, the only time in the last 10 years that has happened.
Forest will hope to kick-start their campaign when they travel to rock-bottom Leicester City on Monday evening. And they can take some comfort from the fact that in three of the last four seasons, the club who were 20th after seven games went on to finish the campaign in that position.
The other season? Watford finished 19th.
