Nottingham Forest ‘braced’ for Brennan Johnson transfer fight after £30m bid

Nottingham Forest are reportedly expecting further bids for academy graduate Brennan Johnson this summer, after apparently turning down an offer from Brentford.

The Bees are said to have renewed their interest in the 22-year-old this summer, and have made an offer of £30 million to the Reds. That is said to have been instantly turned down with Forest claimed to be demanding a fee of at least £40 million should they cash in.

It’s not the first time Forest have pushed back interest from Brentford, with the club rejecting offers in both the summer of 2021 and January 2022. The highest bid of that time was said to be £18 million.

It seems that Brentford are not the only club interested in a potential summer move for Johnson, with Aston Villa among rival clubs also linked. The Daily Mail claim Forest are ‘braced’ for more bids from the players.

The article goes on to say that the Reds will be looking to sell players this summer in order to help fund incomings for Steve Cooper. Some of that can be generated by selling fringe players, but a big fee for Johnson would add significant funds to the pot.

The Wales international adapted well to life in the Premier League last season. In his debut campaign he scored eight goals and provided three assists.

However, he did find himself starting on the bench more regularly towards the end of the season. Two of the last three Premier League games saw him on the bench, coming on as a late substitute in both games.

Johnson is currently on international duty with Wales. Rob Page’s team are in Euros qualifying action on Friday when they take on Armenia at home (7:45pm kick off), before travelling to take on Turkey on Monday evening (7:45pm kick off).
