Nottingham Forest boss Steve Cooper on ‘hidden talent’ and Noel Gallagher ‘honour’

Steve Cooper has discussed has passion for music and meeting Noel Gallagher, but insists performing isn’t a ‘hidden talent’.

Cooper marked leading Nottingham Forest back to the Premier Leagie via the play-offs by belting out Oasis classic Wonderwall with local group Phil Rostance and The Marshall Band during a promotion party, with clips of the Welshman on the guitar being widely shared on social media.

“He’s a man of many talents! He can handle a guitar, definitely,” band member Ben Marshall told NottinghamshireLive at the time. “He’s such an understated character. He always likes the limelight to be on the players, rather than himself. But that was his night as well.

“Certainly for us as a band - and diehard fans - it’s one of those memories which will last forever. To have that moment in time, to celebrate that with the gaffer, was incredible and a real privilege. The whole atmosphere was just fantastic.”

Cooper was reminded of the performance during an interview with Soccer AM ahead of Forest’s crucial clash with relegation rivals Everton on Sunday.

When it was put to him that music was a hidden talent, the 43-year-old Oasis fan joked: “I wouldn’t say it’s a hidden talent. It’s something I can do, it’s usually to myself and no one else can listen!

“I was lucky enough to meet Noel Gallagher once at the Sports Personality of the Year and that was a real honour. He won’t remember but I do. I like my music but you won’t see me playing the guitar too often, certainly not in public.”
