Nottingham Forest boss delivers verdict on Ethan Horvath's performance against Preston

Goalkeeper Ethan Horvath could reflect on an “excellent” return to action as he kept a clean-sheet in Nottingham Forest’s 0-0 draw at Preston North End.

The summer signing made only his fourth appearance for the Reds at Deepdale - and his first since September - as he stepped in for the suspended Brice Samba.

And he earned praise from head coach Steve Cooper for a solid performance which saw him make some good saves and keep the hosts at bay to help his team earn a point.

On an otherwise below-par evening when Forest were largely flat, the shot-stopper could be pleased with his display between the posts.

Horvath thwarted Alan Browne in the first half, then did well to deny Cameron Archer after the break, with the Preston man missing a golden opportunity soon after as he fired wide when put clean-through.

“He was excellent,” Cooper said of the American. “Some of the boys know they’ve played below their levels, as individuals. That’s a good sign, that they’ve come in disappointed.

“But not Ethan. I thought he was excellent.

“He made a good save in the second half, and with the chance just after, he’s forced the ball wide of the goal.

“He looked strong. They had a lot of corners, but he looked a real presence in there.

“He made good decisions, whether to cross or whether to punch. And his distribution was excellent as well.

“Credit to him. He deserved the opportunity. He works so hard, comes in on his days off and is a really positive guy.

“He deserves to have the opportunity to play, and to play as well as he did.”
