Nottingham Forest have submitted a £22m bid for Yoane Wissa, which Brentford have resolved to reject. Thomas Frank has dismissed the notion Brentford could sell the striker, who has scored 11 goals in 19 Premier League matches this season, in this transfer window.

Forest want another striker to alleviate the pressure on the in-form Chris Wood. Only Mohamed Salah, Alexander Isak and Erling Haaland have outscored Wood, who has 14 goals in the Premier League this season.

Frank was asked last week for his message to Forest in their pursuit of the Democratic Republic of the Congo international and replied: “I would say: ‘Good luck.’ That [transfer] won’t happen.” Wissa, who joined Brentford from Lorient in 2021, is under contract until 2026, with the option of a further year.

Forest are keen to bolster their squad as they try to sustain their unforeseen push to qualify for the Champions League. Forest are third in the Premier League, level with second-placed Arsenal after an impressive eight-match unbeaten run. Forest are six points clear of Manchester City and Newcastle in fifth and sixth respectively.

Forest return to action at Bournemouth on Saturday in a meeting of two teams exceeding expectations. Bournemouth won 4-1 at Newcastle to propel themselves into the conversation for a top-four berth.

Aston Villa have confirmed the signing of the Levante right-back Andrés García in a €7m (£5.9m) deal. Villa wanted competition for Matty Cash after signing the forward and longtime target Donyell Malen from Borussia Dortmund for an initial £20m. Loïc Badé of Sevilla is another defensive target this month. García’s arrival at will allow the teenager Kosta Nedeljkovic to leave on loan.
