Xande Silva is said to be “thinking warmly” about a move from Nottingham Forest to Aris Thessaloniki before the January window closes.
The attacker has been a target for the Greek side for some time, having enjoyed a loan spell there last season.
He has found himself down the pecking order for the Reds since he joined on a two-year deal from West Ham United in the summer, making just three appearances in the Garibaldi.
Up until now, the various parties are believed to have been in disagreement over whether a permanent or loan switch to Aris could be in the offing.
And after he impressed in games against Middlesbrough and Huddersfield Town last month, Silva himself may also have changed his stance, having been given a chance by boss Steve Cooper.
However, Greek website SDNA reports there has been “a warming up of contacts between the two sides”.
They add the fact Silva has been an unused substitute in the last three games - against Arsenal in the FA Cup, followed by league clashes with Millwall and Derby County - has “made him think” about returning to Aris.
The 24-year-old is “now thinking warmly” about a return, with developments “not ruled out” in the coming days.
Asked about his future, Silva said after the 1-0 defeat to the Terriers last month: “I don’t know. I’m just enjoying now, the moment. We will see.
“Forest is an amazing club. It is a very big club, with a big history and top fans.
“It is a good place to be at the moment.”
Reds head coach Cooper has said he will not stand in the way of players who are struggling for game time and wish to seek opportunities elsewhere.
