Nottingham Forest announce second pre-season friendly as talks take place over another

Nottingham Forest have added a second pre-season friendly to their summer schedule.

The Reds will take on PSV Eindhoven at Philips Stadion on Sunday, July 30. The match against the 24-time Dutch champions will kick off at 6.30pm local time in the Netherlands.

Forest say they are “in discussions” to arrange another fixture against Dutch opposition the preceding Friday (July 21). Ticket details for the PSV match, as well as details of further friendlies, are to be announced in due course.

A meeting with neighbours Notts County has already been announced as Steve Cooper’s side put together their plans ahead of the 2023/24 campaign. They will face the Magpies at Meadow Lane on Saturday, July 15 (1pm).

Head coach Cooper is keen for the club to build on the platform they have given themselves by retaining Premier League status. He has talked about an “important June”, and putting together a summer programme ahead of the players returning for training forms part of that.

“Staying in the league has given us a real good opportunity now to build this football club even more than what we’ve done in the last two years,” the Welshman has said. “I, and we, are so determined to do that.

“The players need a complete rest now, and the staff around the team are the same. But for myself and others, we’ve got to make this a real productive summer so that when the guys come back they see a club that’s aiming to improve.”

The groundwork for the new term has already been laid with the announcement of the Reds’ retained list last week. Six players were released at the end of their contracts, in Jesse Lingard, Andre Ayew, Jack Colback, Jordan Smith, Cafu and Lyle Taylor, while the loans of Keylor Navas, Dean Henderson and Renan Lodi have come to an end.
