Nottingham Forest announce change to pre-season friendly fixture

Nottingham Forest play their second friendly of the summer on Tuesday night, when they make the trip to Burton Albion.

The match at the Pirelli Stadium had originally been planned as two 60-minute halves. However, it has now been changed to a 90-minute game.

The Reds had their first pre-season run-out on Friday, when they faced Coventry City at the Pinatar Arena. That brought an end to a week-long intense training camp in Spain for Steve Cooper’s side.

New signing Giulian Biancone opened the scoring, before the Sky Blues went on to win 3-1. Biancone was one of four summer arrivals to feature in a strong first half XI, alongside Taiwo Awoniyi, Dean Henderson and Moussa Niakhate.

Cooper changed almost his entire team for the second half, giving a number of fringe players and youngsters an opportunity. And he is likely to give plenty of players minutes against the Brewers, too. Forest say: "The fixture was originally scheduled to be played as two 60-minute matches, but the change in format has now been agreed by both clubs."

The Reds have five more friendlies scheduled after the one at Burton (7pm kick-off). Next up is a visit to Oakwell to face Barnsley, on Saturday.

With work taking place at the City Ground to get the stadium ready for the top-flight, Cooper’s men return to the Pirelli Stadium next Tuesday to play Hertha Berlin. They then travel to Germany for a meeting with Union Berlin on Saturday, July 23.

Their programme rounds off with a couple of matches at Notts County’s Meadow Lane ground. One against the Magpies will take place on Tuesday, July 26, followed by one against Valencia on Saturday, July 30.

Since playing Coventry, Forest have made two more additions. Omar Richards and Neco Williams have both put pen to paper and could feature against Albion.
