Nottingham Forest ace revels in 'special feeling' as strong statement made after tough run

Brennan Johnson insists belief never wavered in the Nottingham Forest camp, despite a poor run of results.

The Reds ended a run of nine Premier League games without a win in style, seeing off Liverpool 1-0 at the City Ground. It was a performance reminiscent of many Steve Cooper’s team put in last season on their way to securing promotion, with team spirit at the heart of their success.

After a summer transfer window which saw 22 new arrivals, it has taken the group time to gel. But they have shown encouraging signs in recent weeks, and Johnson says even when results were not going their way, the players never lost confidence.

“We had belief every day,” said the attacker. “If you ask anyone, the boys’ attitude in training has been really good.

“The boys who aren’t playing, the boys who are playing, everyone has stuck to it. No one has started sulking, because we know days like this can come if we keep working hard and pushing ourselves.

“It’s an unbelievable day for the club. It’s a big game, with big history on it. The boys turned up and I’m really proud of them.

“The atmosphere was unbelievable and the boys worked really hard, which is what the fans want. We can build on that. It was a really good day and the boys played well.

“The win can do a lot. We know the results haven’t been too good recently.

“We got a good point away at Brighton and we just wanted to build on that. Our home form is going to have to be even better than it has been this season. Hopefully we can get more points from the home games. The fans were everything. Playing here is a special feeling. The fans can do loads. They can be the 12th man, and they were.”
