Nottingham Forest ace Djed Spence sent Liverpool transfer warning ahead of summer window

Former Premier League midfielder Andy Townsend has warned Nottingham Forest loanee Djed Spence about joining Liverpool this summer.

The full-back has caught the eye with his performances for the Reds this season. The 21-year-old has impressed in both the Championship, where he has played a total of 32 times, and in Forest’s run to the FA Cup quarter-final.

His performances have led to speculation over his future with the on-loan Middlesbrough man said to be gaining interest from Premier League clubs, including Liverpool. Steve Cooper’s men were narrowly defeated by Jurgen Klopp’s side in the FA Cup at the weekend.

Amid speculation over where Spence could be playing his football next season, Townsend has sent a warning to the full-back over any potential move to Anfield. “He has been outstanding,” he told talkSPORT.

"During that Cup run, he was absolutely fantastic. He looks like a player of real promise.

“However, I don’t think anyone should go to a club knowing you are going to go there and going to sit and you are going to wait. If he goes to Liverpool, those two positions (right-back and left-back) are incredibly strong at that club.”

Liverpool currently have Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andy Robertson as first choice right and left-back, although the two were left out of the squad for the trip to the City Ground. It means that any new arrival will have a fight on their hands to get regular game time.

It is said that up to 14 clubs from both home and abroad are keeping an eye on Spence’s situation ahead of the transfer window opening, with a price tag of £15million touted. The full-back is reported to be ‘weighing his options’ over his future but would be open to a move abroad.
