A drug-driving father-of-five had been on a stag weekend before he tested positive for cannabis, a court heard. Ashley Smith, 35, of Tokard Drive, Top Valley, actually denied he had smoked the drug or ingested it.
And magistrates were told he did not anticipate anyone would believe his explaination from the stag do, which was the weekend before he was stopped by officers in Queens Bower Road, Arnold, on June 25 last year. At Nottingham Magistrates' Court, he pleaded guilty to driving a Vauxhall without insurance and to drug-driving with cannabis in his blood.
The court heard on Tuesday (January 3) that Smith was stopped driving his girlfriend's car without insurance and the vehicle was seized. He tested positive for cannabis on a drugs swipe at the roadside.

A blood test showed up cannabis in his system over the legal limit. The court heard Smith has 20 convictions for 43 offences, including one drug-driving case. He had two previous convictions for possessing a Class B drug.
Smith was fined £240 for drug-driving, and his licence will be endorsed for having no insurance. He was ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £96, prosecution costs of £85, and he was banned from the roads for three years.
