Nottingham City Hospital building 'beyond repair' to be replaced by new complex

A Nottingham hospital building that is "beyond repair" could soon be replaced by a new facility. A single-storey building at Nottingham City Hospital would be demolished and replaced with a brand new and large complex hosting the hospital's anaesthetic department, if Nottingham City Council approves the fresh plans.

Planners have said the existing building should be replaced as it is currently "beyond repair". It was added the new building would provide additional space for training and improve patient care quality.

The proposed works consist of a new two storey modular building replacing the existing single storey modular building. The ground floor of the new building will hold a seminar room, consultant office, trainee office and IT hub.

The ground floor will also accommodate a shower room and WCs. The first floor will hold office spaces, private office rooms and anaesthetic admin office. The informal seating, kitchen and decking area which is accessible through the anaesthetic admin area will also be located on the first floor.

The doors and corridors on the ground floor will be wide enough for wheelchairs, and the department is accessible from the main North Corridor of the City Hospital Campus. An accessible toilet and water fountain would also be available on the ground floor of the department.

Bosses at the hospitals trust confirmed the improvements were part of the general ongoing hospital estates works, rather than to do with the Tomorrow's NUH programme.

Rachel Tomasevic, Acute Care General Manager at Nottingham University Hospitals, said: "These plans are part of the ongoing works to our estates to improve the environment for our patients and our staff.

“This building will replace an aged existing modular building and instead provide a new and modern improved unit for our anaesthetics team at our City Hospital.”

The planning application is pending consideration by Nottingham City Council.
