Nottingham car wash owner feels he has 'lost control' of drug users exploiting area

The owner of a Nottingham car wash business has expressed his frustration at drug users exploiting space behind an old pub. Amir Javidani, runs the business outside the former Cricket Players pub in Radford Road, Hyson Green.

The 43-year-old said he had "lost control" of people sneaking into the back of the dilapidated building, where he says they drink alcohol and inject drugs. Needles and other drug-using materials can be seen strewn across the floor towards the rear of the property.

"I can't control it, when I chuck one out another two or three come in," said Mr Javidani, who has been working at the premises since 2014. "It's an easy place to come and drink or inject drugs.

"It happens during the night and day. People are always coming here, shouting and fighting. People come here and they don't care, they have lost their minds.

"This area is very hard, you can't do anything. There were five or six people here the other day."

He said police officers have come to the premises to move people on in the past, but said further action was needed to solve the issue. "There were five or six people here the other day," he said.

"If you want to control it you have to get a camera." The site is currently subject to plans which would see 50 student flats replace the pub.

The application, which was submitted by A&Q Properties Nottingham Ltd, is currently pending consideration by Nottingham City Council.

Mr Javidani said he does not know if he will be able to remain if the plans are approved, but said the current problem with drug users would "be better when it's a new building". Nottinghamshire Police was contacted for comment.
